Before and After

Most of the time what you see as the final product on FB or IG – isn’t what the RAW image looked like. It’s always best to get your settings right in camera, but there are some things you will need to do via your editing software to make the image pop!

I thought it would be fun to show a little before and after on an image AND I figured the settings for an image may be helpful too!

I took the following image with the Nikon 810 and with the Nikkor 35mm 1.4 lens. Settings were: ISO 640, Aperature 2.5, Shutter 2500.

I could have dropped my ISO a bit and reduced the shutter speed. However, I don’t see much grain at ISO 640 on my camera… so I just roll with it.

My settings tend to evolve as I follow my kids around. Sometimes they are technically great, other times… I roll with what works so that I can capture the moment.

You can achieve this same editing style in your images by adjusting the blacks, fill light, and levels.

Believe it or not, there isn’t much adjusted here with regard to saturation or vibrance… just getting the highlights, lights, and darks where they should be really helps balance the colors and give the image depth.
