Two Questions & a New Perspective

Ever ask yourself a question and the answer you get isn’t something you expected? I swear I’m not crazy, but I do think very deeply.

I asked myself the question, “What is my most prized strength?” I quickly answered — “My ability to dream big dreams”.

The answer surprised me, but I took a second and reflected back on the last few years and at any given time you could search my car, my notebook, or the notepad on my phone and you would find business ideas, family ideas, creative ideas, vacation ideas, or financial ideas. Sometimes my ideas show up on the back of receipts or coffee shop napkins – I’m sure that our family is walking in the blessing of God-sized dream that was written on a scrap of paper some time ago. I love the ability to think outside of myself and my own abilities and get into the ‘miracle zone’ where God has to show up for any of it to come into fruition.

So after exploring that initial question another one came to mind, “What is my biggest fear?” I quickly answered this one too – “inadequacy”.

I kind of chuckled to myself – my greatest self-perceived strength is creating ways to exceed current circumstances and create opportunity for myself and others, but my greatest fear is that I won’t be good enough to do it. What does Joyce Meyer say? – The mind is a battlefield! Lord Jesus.

I share this because I think it’s important that we answer these two questions –

What is our strength (calling, purpose, etc.)? and

What is our greatest fear (concern, worry, etc)?

I love the words of Lisa Bevere, “The attacks on your life have more to do with who you might be in the future than who you have been in the past.” Our fears can be an emotional attack to keep us from fulfilling our purpose.

I don’t know your strengths or your fears, but I bet that your fear is directly related to your purpose, calling, and strength. Let’s set our fears aside and step into the blessings God has instore for us if we are bold enough to overcome those worries, whatever they are.

 John 14:13-14

“You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!”
